29 Aug 2011: Freedom from Fuel Hikes

Freedom - what a word it is and how each one of us are fond to be saying "I have Freedom". And the fight for freedom is not a new thing to all of us. Every time we want to be free from something or the other at various walks of our life. If you look at our forefathers, they fought the English to obtain free India. And now, with Anna Hazare's initiation almost all of us are willing to fight to make free India to be freed from the corruption. So in one way or the other, whether it is yesterday, today or tomorrow, we look forward to Freedom from something or the other.

So how is that we can get freedom from the fuel hikes which have rocketed like anything in few years? The fuel hikes which has become a constant daily news for each one of us. As you tear away a date from your daily calendar you should be dreading to hear the hike in fuel prices. Just go and check with the women - nowadays they are not even worried that they are older by a day but much more worried to see a day pass-by, just frightened to hear the news of fuel price hike.

The reasons that are provided for the fuel price hike are more of political side and I let that to the people who deal well with it - news channels. What ever be the reason our concern is that every month we need to allocate some extra amount towards fuel budget from that of the previous month. This is the hard reality that all of us are facing.

So, what could we do to overcome this fuel hike? One option for the 4 wheelers is that they can move to Diesel vehicles if they are on Petrol now. Still the initial investment for the Diesel vehicle is substantial and moving from the one you have already is not that easy either in terms of the amount you might lose on re-selling. In spite of all these things, if you move out to a Diesel vehicle, with the current trend Diesel will soon catch up the petrol's price in the near future. Which fuel should we move from Diesel to?? Kerosene or what??? Ideally cant beat the fuel hike.

Atleast for 4 wheelers they have an option to bring down the monthly expense by switching to Diesel. What about the 2 wheelers? Should they opt for diesel engine? (auto companies, its actually an idea for you guys to work on the diesel engine for 2 wheelers like how Enfiled had years ago... and dont worry I wont ask you for more % :)) So till the time they have an option they will have to stick with this only. No overcoming the fuel hike in this case too.

We have buses, lorries, tempo travellers that run on diesel. So can we go for any of these for our daily ride or what? :)) Atleast I wont and cant. Or we should plan for a ride in a tonga or bullock cart or rickshaw or by walking which we were doing ages before. But are these feasible?

One solution that I could think of is that we could still move to diesel vehicles. Hey guys.. wait dont rush to beat me blue. Wait a minute and listen to what exactly I wanted to tell you all. I meant to use the public vehicles - yeah.. you got it... buses. By using the bus for our daily commution we could actually beat the fuel hike. How??

Assume all of us use the buses for commuting to any place we plan to go. This way the number of vehicles that come on road becomes lesser. This means the fuel consumption per day becomes lesser. The roads are freed by the excessive vechicles. This means reaching the destination would be close to the actual timing (to those who wonder what actual timing is: for a 10 km distance how long it should take ideally? 15 to 20 minutes right? But can you say that you can reach the place in that time with the always growing vehicle population? sometime it could take an hour too). This means the demand will be less and over a period of time the government might think of bringing the price down. I know they wont show that urgency in bringing down the price as they show while increasing it, still hope is what life is and lets atleast hope for that to happen :) Above all we could have made the environment smell a little greener. For this the government has to come up with more buses that are better to commute. Hike in fuel cost is fueling the hike of other necessary things for day to day life and it is time that government should really look into this issue seriously.

Having proposed this, I know this is not an easy thing to implement with all of us used to plan our travel based on our priorities. But with such things it is very difficult to get freedom from fuel hikes. We would grudge about the hikes and allocate some extra money and proceed. This is the hard reality we have to face today and to be frank really struggling for the freedom from fuel hikes. Can we expect a Anna Hazare for fuel hike issues to be born? Time will have to tell :)

To get a little freedom from the fuel hike move on to Fiat Upgrade offer - Upgrade to Multijet.

16-Jun-2011: Aditi Anjay @ LKG 'A' Section!!

It is 16th June 2011. Though it may not mean a lot to you all but it was a moment to cherish for Anu and I as Aditi started her academic year in LKG class. Yes, this is the day Aditi went to her LKG class after being promoted from Pre-KG. So for another year, it is going to be Aditi Anjay, LKG 'A' Section, PSBB LLA, Bangalore :)

Wanted to share with you all on how her first week into LKG went. Few weeks back we went to pay the fees (hope most fo you all, by now, know how big hole it makes in your pocket!!!) and got her books, shoes and uniform. This is the first time she is gonna wear uniform in PSBB (earlier she wore uniform in when she was going to Apple Kids) as for pre-kg there was no uniform and it was a big challenge for us on choosing a dress daily. Now we dont have that challenge hihihihihihiiiii. She tried the uniform there.

The day before her first day in LKG, took her to a studio near by and took passport size foto for her ID card.

Aditi seems to say that she is going to go to PSBB school for the 2nd year:

And thats Aditi in her full attire with her ID Card minus school bag:

Eager to know what is in store for her at school - new teacher, few new friends, new location and things like that. With her mom inside our apartment (only to those who know tamil: சிங்க நடை போட்டு song in the background :)):

We waited sometime for her school bus. It came around 8.45am and we followed it to the school and were waiting around the entrance to the KG section. There was an Aunt and a teacher in the bus. Along with them, the driver helped in getting the kids from the bus and took them to their respective classes. Aditi seen standing in the line with all the kids from that bus.

Now she marches towards her class :)

She had to cross a small Vinayakar Temple (to her right) inside the campus

before entering into the KG section - that's Anjay clicking the KG section.

Come on, let us enter to have a peek into the KG section.

Aditi's class is in the first floor. She need to take the step and come to the right corner in the foto for her LKG 'A' section class.

We met her class teacher and then came home. In the afternoon, went to pick her up from the school bus and waited for quite a long time as expected since it was the first day and know it would be a mess there in school before the buses started. Her bus came almost after an hour's wait at 1.30 pm. We could see her smiling on seeing us from the bus while few kids were asleep (you cant expect them to be awake since they leave so early in the morning.)

Once she got down, she immediately opened her school bag and showed us what they did on the first day. A craft item with a "welcome" on it. She told her madam asked them to do the sticking.

And a closer look at what she had in her hand:

Exactly a week later she got the first "star". She told that her madam gave it to those who colored nicely and posed with the star in her hand:

This is juz what happened during her first week into the LKG. Hoping to share a few more in the days to come. Till then, tata bye bye :)

Mixed Emotions - Happiness and Sadness!!!

I feel I should share a moment where I felt the opposite feelings together - Happiness and Sadness. Yeah, it was Diwali time and it is needless to say that it is the time for gala celebrations from North to South irrespective of where you are located. Before moving on to describing the moment I would like to tell a few lines on Diwali and happenings during the festival.

And the debates like "should we really fire crackers? " or "is buying crackers a waste of money?" or "crackers are nuisance and cause of a noise pollution" or in any other context will happen if not at a bigger level, it will happen between your friends and close ones.

So what exactly Diwali mean? For me its time to relax, enjoy, feel happy, have sweets and many many other sweet things you can think of. Even few of my friends (for that matter my better half ) would say "is this the age to fire crackers?" or "I have not liked it even during my younger days". Is there any specific age or some cut-off for anything - not only for firing crackers? It is perfect as long as one likes to do it. So if one does not like to do it, so be it. That does not mean they should expect others to follow them as well.

I know some of you must be feeling a bit jittery about the .Hope, after reading the content below, you will agree to why I was elaborating it above.

It was that momentous Diwali day. It started as it had in the previous years. We got up early and had oil bath (maybe not like the usual bath, at-least we had oil applied all over the body :)). After having some eatables, we started firing crackers - almost all types starting from Bijili, Lakshmi crackers, Sparrow/ crackers, atom bombs to garland crackers - in the morning. We were so happy and so immersed in firing that we seldom noticed the lads watching it around the corner.

When I was about to fire a garland cracker, I went to that corner and found a few lads watching at us. I asked them
"what are you doing here?"
And got the immediate response "watching you fire crackers".
"Why are you not doing it? Go and fire crackers"
"We don't have crackers at home"

For a moment, I was lost. I called them, after some hesitance, they came and I gave few crackers which we have bought and asked them to fire it either here or at their home. They started firing them near our place itself. Maybe their parents would not feel good or the lads might be punished for getting the crackers from outsiders.

Whatever it might be, I was more than happy at the moment for seeing them firing crackers happily and at the same time felt really sad for the lads who could not spare for few crackers. I know few lads might come just like that to have extra crackers. But I felt that was not the moment to validate if the lads were really not having crackers or they wanted extra. When I watched them fire the crackers so happily, it instilled a little more happiness in me on that auspicious day.

Let anybody say anything - its a waste of time and money, noise pollution etc. I felt that if I can make a few lads happy by giving a little percentage of what I had, I am content and happy. So at-least for few such kids, I buy crackers every year without fail. Hope some of you are upto this already. Thanks guys.
